UKCA and CE Marking: A Guide for Garden Office Manufacturers and Suppliers

The UKCA mark was introduced after Brexit for goods placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales). Many construction-related products were designated to switch from CE to UKCA marking. But in practice, the UK government has extended the recognition of the CE mark in many cases. For construction products, the UK announced indefinite extension of CE mark recognition (at least for now) to reduce disruption to business. The UK government guidance states that both CE and UKCA can be placed on products (if both relevant rules are met).

What the Law & Guidance Actually Say

  • The UKCA mark was introduced after Brexit for goods placed on the market in Great Britain (England, Scotland, Wales).

  • Many construction-related products were designated to switch from CE to UKCA marking.

  • But in practice, the UK government has extended the recognition of the CE mark in many cases. For construction products, the UK announced indefinite extension of CE mark recognition (at least for now) to reduce disruption to business.

  • The UK government guidance states that both CE and UKCA can be placed on products (if both relevant rules are met).

So: Can CE be used “forever” for building materials?

Not exactly “forever,” but yes — under current UK policy, CE marking will continue to be accepted indefinitely for many construction products. The UK government has explicitly extended CE acceptance for construction products to ease burden on manufacturers.

Made in the UK – What It Really Means

Some manufacturers worry that sourcing materials globally undermines the “Made in the UK” label. In fact, this is not a problem at all.

Think of a bakery: it makes its bread locally but doesn’t grow its own wheat. In the same way, a UK-made garden office may use imported steel, timber, screws, glass, or paint — just as it always has. What matters is that design, assembly, quality control, and compliance are carried out in the UK.

At Garden Seven, we proudly state Made in the UK because:

  • Final design, customisation, and assembly are performed by our UK teams and UK Partners.

  • Product range meets UKCA or CE standards.

  • We apply UK intellectual property protections and industry best practice.

Global sourcing ensures cost-effectiveness and material excellence, but British quality and compliance remain at the core.

Garden Seven helps international manufacturers and UK suppliers navigate these rules, secure certification, and proudly deliver garden buildings that meet the highest standards.
